Able Seaman Leon Benjamin, Guyana Defense Force, communicates over a radio with the captain of a suspected drug trafficking ship during a mock exercise at the Antigua and Barbuda Defense Force Coast Guard Station on June 7. Benjamin participated in the military law enforcement exercise with members of maritime law enforcement units from 10 Caribbean nations during Tradewinds 2014. U.S. Coast Guardsmen role played drug traffickers while Benjamin and others practiced boarding, search and detainment procedures on their ship. Tradewinds is a joint, combined, exercise conducted in conjunction with partner nations to enhance the collective abilities of defense forces and constabularies to counter transnational organized crime and to conduct humanitarian/disaster relief operations.
