"Homer," the mascot of the Atlanta Braves baseball team, gives his full attention to the Sgt. Major of the Army Raymond Chandler prior to the celebratory kickoff honoring the U.S. Army's 239th birthday Friday night. It was a showcase of the strength of the Army on Turner Field. The Georgia Army National Guard marched onto the field along with future Soldiers who were officially sworn in by the U.S. Army’s recruiting command. The Fort Benning, Ga., -based Silver Wings Parachuting Exhibition Team landed with the official play ball and the national anthem was sang by combat veteran Sgt. Corrin Alicia Campbell who performs as part of the Army’s musical outreach. (Georgia National Guard photo by Army Staff Sgt. Tracy J. Smith)
