Members of the 464th Transportation Company, Fort Belvoir, Va., navigate the shallow waters of the Appomattox River aboard a Landing Craft Mechanized (LCM) boat during the Quartermaster Liquid Logistics Exercise at Fort Lee, Va., June 13. As part of QLLEX 2014, Army Reserve watercraft operators are working with water purification units to train in responding to natural disasters, deploying mobile purification units to places unreachable by roads. The LCM is uniquely suited to the task, enabling water purifiers to treat and distribute clean, safe water from local sources within hours of landing, producing up to 125 gallons per hour aboard the boat, and distributing it on shore.
