Gen. David Perkins, commanding general, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, gives remarks during the 239th birthday celebration of the U.S. Army at the Richard J. Daley Center in downtown Chicago on June 13. Perkins explained that the U.S. Army birthday celebration, officially on June 14, 1775, was for America’s army, and it is one year older than our nation. The six-hour celebration, coordinated by the U.S. Army’s Midwestern public affairs office, based in Chicago, received participation from various military units, organizations, and leaders throughout the Chicago-land area.
