Maj. Samuel M. Dabney, a helicopter pilot with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 163 (Reinforced), 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, conducts a pre-flight inspection on an AH-1Z Super Cobra on the flight deck of the USS San Diego as part of flight operations conducted during Certification Exercise (CERTEX) off the coast of Southern California, June 18, 2014. The 11th MEU and Amphibious Squadron 5 team conducts CERTEX to hone mission-essential tasks, execute specified MEU and Amphibious Ready Group operations, and certify the foundation of a cohesive warfighting team for exercises and operations they may encounter in their upcoming deployment.
