U.S. Marine Cpl. Michael Taylor prepares a freshly caught fish as part of a jungle survival course June 4 during Exercise Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training 2014 at Teluk Gorek Beach, Malaysia. CARAT is a bilateral maritime exercise series between the U.S. and the armed forces of Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Timor-Leste. The exercise addresses shared maritime security concerns and priorities, enhances capacity and interoperability, and develops relationships between participating forces. Taylor is a Hiawassee, Georgia, native and rifleman with 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, currently assigned to 4th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, under the unit deployment program.
