Rct. Gari Castillo, Platoon 1066, Alpha Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, announces his weight before beginning a pugil stick match July 15, 2014, on Parris Island, S.C. Recruits can only battle an opponent within 10 pounds of their own weight. Pugil stick training simulates close-quarters combat with rifles fixed with bayonets. The 15-second matches are closely monitored by instructors and help teach recruits what they may encounter while deployed in a combat zone. Castillo, 18, from Miami, is scheduled to graduate Sept. 19, 2014. (Photo by Cpl. David Bessey)
