Maj. Gen. Mark Bartman, assistant adjutant general for Air, Ohio National Guard, talks with members of the Wauseon Fire Department, Capt. Jason Fisher and firefighter Phil Kessler, as they fill water bladders with clean water from the Wauseon area, transported by fire trucks to Holland, Ohio, Aug. 3, 2014. Ohio Gov. John Kasich, declared a state of emergency Aug. 2, 2014, after a harmful algae bloom in Lake Erie contaminated the area’s public water system. The water is transferred from the fire trucks into large bladders before being passed through several smaller bladders used for filtering followed by chlorine tests to ensure sanitary water is available for those in need. Members of the Ohio Army and Air National Guard have been activated to stand up water distribution sites for those communities impacted until the state of emergency is lifted.
