As a sign of gratitude for their attendance, Drawsko Pomorskie Mayor Zbigniew Ptak (left) greets Maj. Nathan Williams (far right), operations officer, 1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade and Capt. Matthew McCarthy, commander, Company D, 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade, after a ceremony Aug. 1, honoring Poland’s 70th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising. The Warsaw Uprising was a resistance movement against Nazi Germany during World War II that lasted from Aug. 1, 1944 through Oct. 2, 1944 and resulted in nearly 200,000 deaths. U.S. and Canadian paratroopers were invited to participate in the ceremony as part of Operation Atlantic Resolve, combined military-forces training designed to foster cohesive relationships between allies and demonstrate a commitment to NATO obligations.
