Sgt. Chris Rew, a flight medic with Company C, 2nd Battalion, 211th Aviation Regiment, trains medics of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 168th Infantry Battalion, during their two-week annual training in Fort McCoy, Wis., Aug. 3. The infantry medics practiced medical extractions via hoist with the help of the flight medics and UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters. This training opportunity gave the new medics hands-on experience with hoist evacuation procedures, which isn't commonly trained during initial entry training. The 1-168 Infantry Battalion, based out of Council Bluff, Iowa, is a part of the Iowa National Guard's 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division.
