Thomas Griffin, an Army Air Corps Lt. during World War II, greets a visitor during a book signing at the USS Arizona Memorial Visitor Center Pearl Harbor. Griffin served as a navigator for B-52 bombers who, in April 1942, launched a sneak attack off the aircraft carrier USS Hornet (CV 8) against mainland Japan. Led by Lt. Col. Jimmy Doolittle, the Doolittle Raid was Americas first strike against Japan following the Dec. 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor.
