Rct. Domonique Echoles, Platoon 4028, Oscar Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, repeatedly lifts a 30-pound ammunition can as part of a combat fitness test Aug. 5, 2014, on Parris Island, S.C. Recruits such as Echoles, 23, from Dayton, Ohio, had two minutes to lift the can as many times as possible. Females must complete 60 ammunition can lifts for a perfect score on this portion of the test. The test, a graduation requirement, also included an 880 run and maneuver under fire course where recruits completed various exercises including carrying fellow recruits. The CFT is an annual training requirement for Marines and helps gauge combat readiness. Oscar Company is scheduled to graduate Aug. 22, 2014. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Cpl. Caitlin Brink)
