Leaders of the future amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6), Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force South, U.S. Ambassador to Chile Michael Hammer and a distinguished visitor cut the official cake of a reception held in the hangar bay of the ship in Valparaíso, Chile, Aug. 25, 2014. The reception was hosted by the Marines and Sailors of America and Ambassador Hammer for Chilean government officials and local leaders. The formal evening concluded with speeches from Rear Adm. Frank L. Ponds, commander of Expeditionary Strike Group 3 and the U.S. Ambassador. SPAMGTF-South is currently embarked aboard America in support of her maiden transit, "America Visits the Americas."
