A dozen Airmen and family members from the 89th Communications Squadron rest during a hike at Shenandoah National Park, Va., Aug. 10. Later that day, a Virginia man fell about four feet and smash his head on a boulder. 89th CS airborne communications technicians Airman 1st Class Andrew Pranzo and Tech. Sgt. Jeffery Boyette, and Karen Boyette, treated a Y-shaped gash in the man’s forehead using Pranzo’s shoelace and a pair of shorts from a small child’s diaper bag. Pranzo then assisted the man in a two-mile walk out of the mountains while carrying his young granddaughter. (Courtesy photo)
