Aviation Ordnancemen from the Fighting Marlins of Patrol Squadron (VP) 40, the Screaming Eagles of VP-1, and the Totems of VP-69 work together to hoist a Maverick onto the P-3C Orion aircraft. Air and sea units from the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force participated in the sinking of the former USS Fresno (LST 1182) - to gain proficiency in tactics, targeting and live firing against a surface target at sea in conditions that could not be simulated otherwise. Valiant Shield is a U.S.-only exercise integrating U.S. Navy, Air Force, Army and Marine Corps assets, offering real-world joint operational experience to develop capabilities that provide a full range of options to defend U.S. interests and those of its allies and partners.
