Aviation ordnancemen from the Fighting Marlins of Patrol Squadron (VP) 40, the Screaming Eagles of VP-1, and the Totems of VP-69 work together to attach the wings and fins to the Harpoon attached to the P-3C Orion aircraft. Air and sea units from the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force participated in the sinking of the former USS Fresno (LST 1182) to gain proficiency in tactics, targeting and live firing against a surface target at sea in conditions that could not be simulated otherwise. Valiant Shield is a U.S.-only exercise integrating U.S. Navy, Air Force, Army and Marine Corps assets, offering real-world joint operational experience to develop capabilities that provide a full range of options to defend U.S. interests and those of its allies and partners.
