Brig. Gen. Steven R. Rudder, center, Rear Adm. Russell Allen, center left, and Col. Hunter H. Hobson receive a brief on the M31 Marine Corps expeditionary arresting gear system Sept. 21 at West Field, Tinian, Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands during exercise Valiant Shield 2014. Valiant Shield is a U.S.-only exercise integrating Navy, Air Force, Army, and Marine Corps assets, offering real-world joint operational experience to develop capabilities that provide a full range of options to defend U.S. interests and those of its allies and partners. Rudder is the commanding general of 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force. Allen is the deputy commander of the U.S. 7th Fleet.
