The guided missile destroyer USS Arleigh Burke (DDG 51) launches a Tomahawk cruise missile in the Red Sea Sept. 23, 2014. The Arleigh Burke deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility to support maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts. President Barack Obama authorized humanitarian aid deliveries to Iraq as well as targeted airstrikes to protect U.S. personnel from extremists known as the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant.
