Paratroopers with the 82nd Airborne Division raise a flag on the far bank of the Waal River in Nijmegen, Netherlands, Sept. 21, 2014. As part of the Netherlands’ 70th commemoration of Operation Market Garden in World War II, the paratroopers reenacted the historic crossing that was a last-ditch effort to seize the bridge in Nijmegen. Veteran James “Maggie” Megellas, the most decorated officer in the history of the 82nd Abn. Div., joined the paratroopers during a modern-day crossing and shared his experiences of what it was like to cross the river during the operation 70 years ago. (U.S. Army photo by Staff Sgt. Mary S.
