Chief Petty Officer Saul Mendo uses hand signals to tell a pilot to move his aircraft forward on the flight deck of the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan. Chiefs are senior personnel on the flight deck and act as advisors and supervisors during daily operations. Ronald Reagan and Carrier Air Wing 14 are underway conducting a sustainment exercise in the Pacific Ocean.
