Spc. Cody Renner, of the 957 Multi-role Bridge Company, Bismarck, shakes hands with retired Maj. Ronnie Pederson, formerly of the 409th Infantry, as Renner accompanies Fargo police officer Christopher Potter on dike watch patrol, March 27, along drainage 27 on the south side of Fargo, N.D. The pair of dike walkers are checking for breaches or cracks in the sandbags and hesco barriers, which they report to the emergency operations center for repair. "Having an officer out with a military member is very reassuring to civilian residents along the dikes," says Potter. He is working the dike patrol in Fargo despite his own evacuation with his family from their home in Moorhead, Minn., March 26. "Our goal is to be the epitome of professionalism," adds Potter, "people get really stressed out when the flood waters are rising and they don't know how high the water will go, and they are reassured when they know we are out here helping them."
