Lt. Col. Kate Germano, the 4th Recruit Training Battalion commander, gives a tour of the 4th Battalion barracks complex to Maj. Gen. James Lukeman, the commanding general of Marine Corps Training and Education Command, Oct. 9, 2014, on Parris Island, S.C. Germano spoke about many issues involving the future of women on Parris Island and how to improve training for her recruits and the quality of life of her drill instructors. “There aren't many jobs women Marines are hand picked specifically to do,” said Lukeman. “You are the women Marine role models here.” Lukeman, a native of Beaufort, S.C., toured the depot to familiarize himself with recruiting procedures, recruit training and depot operations.
