Jared Buchanan, J35 planner for Joint Forces Command – United Assistance and Col. Patrick Garman, commander of the 1st Area Medical Laboratory, out of Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md., tour the Mississippi Inn, a hotel and one of three possible medical laboratory sites that they visited in Sinoe County, Liberia, Dec. 4, 2014. Jones, Backlund, Buchanan and Garman are part of a medical reconnaissance team for JFC-UA, comprised of members of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, U.S. Soldiers and members of the Armed Forces of Liberia. Operation United Assistance is a Department of Defense operation in Liberia to provide logistics, training and engineering support to U.S. Agency for International Development-led efforts to contain the Ebola virus outbreak in western Africa.
