Gunner’s Mate 1st Class Arthur Donehower fires a shotline from the forecastle of Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG2) flagship USS Vicksburg (CG 69) to German oil tanker Spessart (A 1442) as the ship prepares for a replenishment at sea. Spessart recently joined SNMG2 to provide regular refueling support. SNMG2 is a multinational, integrated maritime force made up of vessels from various allied countries whose mission is to ensure the safety and security of allied waterways and provide a unified presence to deter terrorist activity in the region.
