To train Soldiers efficiently, it takes leadership and experience. U.S. Army 1st Lt. Timothy Koenig, a native of Trenton, N.J., and Range Officer in Charge, Staff Sgt. Gino Molina, a native of Phoenix, and Range Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge, and Sgt 1st Class Joseph Filipiak, a native of Chicago, and the Range Safety Officer, deliver marksmanship instruction. Supporting them is a highly skilled team of instructors led by Staff Sgt. John Kavanagh, a native of Baltimore. Kavanagh and his team work to develop each Soldier's marksmanship abilities. He dedicated a great amount of time and effort to ensure that all Soldiers were taught with professionalism and proficiency. Once his task was complete, it was Filipiak's turn to train personnel on all aspects of the range and weapons safety. As the RSO, Filipiak ensures the safety of all personnel on the range. Once Soldiers have been trained to standard, range safeties start the process of qualifying Soldiers. It took seven hours to qualify 72 Soldiers on their M16A2 assault rifles. Qualification scores ranged from marksman to expert. "Weapons qualification is critical to mission success," said Koenig. "Without it, Soldiers can be potentially at risk. It takes dedication and determination to setup and execute training. We are proud of our staff and their dedication to duty; we could not have completed this task without them."
