Army Reserve Staff Sgt. Nick Simonson and his wife Shannon, both from Anamosa, Iowa, entertain their 6-month-old daughter, Kinsley, in between classes during a Yellow Ribbon event held in Bloomington, Minnesota, Feb. 6-8. Simonson, who is assigned to the 327th Military Police Company, will soon leave his wife, Shannon, Kinsley, and his 3-year-old son Trace, for his third tour deployed into harm’s way. “The yellow ribbon program is a great program to educate families about the resources available to them while their husbands or wives are deployed overseas,” he said. “This is our second deployment and it’s always tough for everyone to adjust, but somehow we make it through it. The staff here really care about us and are here to help us with whatever questions and concerns we may have going into this deployment.” Shannon credits her employer and the people she works to help her family while Nick is deploy. She works with Advancement Resources in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. “It’s a small company but their hearts are huge when it comes to supporting our military family,” she said. “If it wasn’t for them, I would probably be going home to Florida to live with my family.” Simonson, who is a nine-year veteran of the Army Reserve, is a correction specialist with the Iowa Department of Corrections.
