Army Reserve Staff Sgt. Nick Simonson, from Anamosa, Iowa, holds his six-month-old daughter, Kinsley, in between classes during a Yellow Ribbon event held in Bloomington, Minn., Feb. 6-8. Simonson, who is assigned to the 327th Military Police Company, will soon leave his wife, Shannon, Kinsley, and his 3-year-old son Trace, for his third tour deployed into harm’s way. “It’s tough to leave your family, but I signed up for the Army, so others wouldn’t have too,” he said. “Yellow Ribbon is a great program for the entire family, and I encourage everyone to attend the events with their families. It’s amazing how much the program has grown since my last deployment.” Simonson, who is a nine-year veteran of the Army Reserve, is a correction specialist with the Iowa Department of Corrections.
