Iraqi Air Force Capt. Pilot Ali Hussam Ali Abbas Rubaie, was born in Baghdad, Feb. 27, 1971. He joined the Iraqi Air Force High School in the 1984 Course #6 graduating in 1988. He Joined the Iraqi Air Force College in 1988 course #53 and graduated as Lieutenant Pilot in 1992. Ali served in Squadron 4 where he flew the L-39 and subsequently served in Squadrons 17, 27, 14, and 47 respectively flying the Mig-21. He became an aircraft commander in 1997. In 2002, he was assigned to Squadron 3 at al Bakr AB remaining in the Squadron until the fall of the Hussein regime in 2003. Ali joined the new Iraqi Air Force in January 1, 2005 and was assigned to Squadron 3 at Kirkuk Air Base where he trained and worked with American forces, conducting reconnaissance and transport missions.
