Lt. Col. Whitney Gardner, the commander of 2nd Battalion, 501st Aviation Regiment, 1st Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Armored Division, based out of Fort Bliss, Texas, addresses the audience during his unit’s color casing ceremony at Roberts International Airport, located outside Monrovia, Liberia, Feb. 25, 2015. The ceremony marked the 2-501st’s successful completion of their mission in support of Operation United Assistance where they were deployed as Task Force Iron Knights. As the mission draws to a close, many of the Iron Knight Soldiers have already redeployed to the U.S. where they have begun their 21-day controlled monitoring, a precaution implemented to ensure communities and families feel safe when the Soldiers reintegrate back into the community.
