SAN DIEGO (Feb. 25, 2015) Cmdr. Gervy Alota, a Sailor retuning from the deployed dock landing ship USS Comstock (LSD 45), shares the first kiss with his wife. Comstock is part of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), which had nearly 4,500 Sailors and Marines, returned to its homeport of San Diego after a seven-month deployment to the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet areas of operations. During the deployment, the ARG transited nearly 35,000 nautical miles and conducted air strikes against the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL).
