Staff Sgt. Jason Mabe, a motor transport maintenance chief with 2nd Radio Battalion, presents the Mameluke sword of 2nd Lt. Paul W. Smithson to Frederick George Smithson, father to Paul, and the rest of the Smithson family at the Officer’s Club aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., March 10, 2015. Mabe found the sword while on duty in 2013 and went through great lengths in order to find the rightful owner of the sword and once he found out the owner had fallen in combat during the Vietnam War, he looked for the family so that they may have a piece of memorabilia.
