Two CH-47 Chinook helicopters from Company B, 3rd Battalion, 126th Aviation located in Rochester, N.Y., fly to Fort Drum, N.Y., March 14, 2015. The CH-47 passengers included 30 Airmen from the 274th Air Support Operations Squadron (ASOS), based at Hancock Field, and the aircrew of the two CH-47F who trained together for the first time. The training included Joint Terminal Attack Controller (or JTAC) Airmen from the 274th ASOS conducting CH-47 helicopter familiarization training, safety briefings and embark and debark training before they flew to Fort Drum where they will train in CH-47 landing procedures and sling loading. In Afghanistan, CH-47s play a key role in moving troops in the high mountain regions because their dual rotors generate the lift necessary to operate at high altitudes.
