Residents of Dire Dawa, Ethiopia, gathered with U.S. service members assigned to Combined Joint Task Force Horn of Africa, to dedicate the newly-renovated Prince Makonen Secondary School auditorium in Dire Dawa, Ethiopia on June 24. Seabees from U.S. Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 11, Gulfport, Miss., completed the $102,000 renovation project. The CJTF-HOA-funded project included the rehabilitation of the auditorium and two computer classrooms for the nearly 3,000-pupil secondary school. The service members of CJTF-HOA, headquartered in Djibouti, employ an indirect approach to counter violent extremism. Through a strategy of cooperative conflict prevention the task force helps build the internal capacities of countries at risk to prevail against extremists exploiting instability.
