Members of the Dire Dawa Education Board and the Prince Makonen Secondary School show U.S. Navy Rear Adm. Tony Kurta, commander of Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa, one of the renovated computer classrooms following the dedication ceremony in Dire Dawa, Ethiopia on June 24. Seabees from U.S. Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 11, Gulfport, Miss., completed the $102,000 renovation project. The CJTF-HOA-funded project included the rehabilitation of the auditorium and two computer classrooms for the nearly 3,000-pupil secondary school. The service members of CJTF-HOA, headquartered in Djibouti, employ an indirect approach to counter violent extremism. Through a strategy of cooperative conflict prevention the task force helps build the internal capacities of countries at risk to prevail against extremists exploiting instability.
