Marines from combat cargo load CH-46E Sea Knight helicopters with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 262 (Reinforced), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, with humanitarian aid and disaster relief supplies on the flight deck of the forward-deployed amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2). The supplies will quickly be delivered to those in need along the coast of Japan. Essex, USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49) and USS Germantown (LSD 42) with the embarked 31st MEU are currently operating off the coast of Hachinohe in northeastern Japan in support of Operation Tomodachi.
