Friends and family members watch as a C5 Galaxy arrives at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, April 7. The aircraft is carrying approximately 44 members of the 176th Wing, Alaska Air National Guard who returned from a six-month deployment to the Horn of Africa. The Guardsmen deployed to Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, last November in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, where they served as part of the 81st Expeditionary Rescue Squadron. Their mission was to provide personnel recovery capabilities in the region, including combat search and rescue, casualty evacuation, and non-combatant evacuation operations.
