Lance Cpl. Zachary Daniels unbuckles his Kevlar helmet strap after completing the “pit-and-pond” April 19 and poses for a photo before his “jungle baptism” during the endurance course at the Jungle Warfare Training Center, Okinawa, Japan. The baptism, a term coined by the JWTC staff, involves them dousing the weary jungle survival students in clean water after low crawling underneath obstacles in knee-deep swamp water. JWTC is the only facility of its kind in the Department of Defense, stretching 20,000 acres across the unforgiving Okinawan wilderness. Daniels is a Homer, Neb., Native and a rifleman with Company L, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment. His unit is attached to 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force under the unit deployment program. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt. Matthew Callahan/Released)
