Sgt. Allen Thomas a Purple Heart recipient from B Company, 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, receives some gifts welcoming him into the 82nd Airborne Division Association from Dick Yeates, a delegate from the 82nd Airborne Division Association's Washington, D.C. Chapter, during a dinner honoring Purple Heart recipients from Iraq and Afghanistan that was part of the Association's 63rd National Convention in Indianapolis, Ind., Aug. 19 - 22. Scharmen and 41 other wounded warriors were flown free of charge to Indianapolis by the association's members to take part in the convention.
