After the passing of the colors ceremony during a change of command ceremony on Sembach Kaserne, May 18, Maj. Gen. John R. O’Connor, the commanding general of the 21st Theater Sustainment Command and reviewer of the ceremony leads off the field the official party, consisting of the incoming commander, Col. W. Mark Stubbs (left), and the outgoing commander, Col. R. Scott Dingle (right). Key to the change of command is the passing of the unit’s colors, they represent not only the heritage and history of the unit but also the unity and loyalty of it’s Soldiers; the colors are the commander's symbol of authority, representing his responsibilities to the organization - wherever the commander is, there also are the colors.
