Spc. Brian Shimer (right), of Shelton, Conn., instructs a fellow Paratrooper how to properly apply a tourniquet during a during a combat life-saver qualification course, Aug. 21, at Forward Operating Base Hammer, Iraq, located outside eastern Baghdad. Shimer is a combat medic assigned to Company C, 82nd Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Multi-National Division – Baghdad. The company holds the courses weekly in order to ensure each trooper is prepare in case of a serious incident during a combat mission. Shimer said the most important quality Paratroopers should bring to the course is confidence in themselves.
