Joanne Gill takes a picture of a memorial plaque honoring her cousin, fallen 352nd Civil Affairs Command Soldier Capt. John E. Smathers, during a building dedication ceremony Sept. 12 at Fort George G. Meade, Md. During the event, the Army renamed the Reserve center located at 2118 20 1/2 Street in honor of the younger Smathers.
