U.S. Army World War II veteran Sgt. Elmer Girten remembers the tough days of the draft, being picked to serve as a rifleman and later fighting in the Battle of the Bulge under Gen. George S. Patton during a tour of the WWII memorial in the National Mall in Washington, D.C., Sept. 16. Through the efforts of Honor Flight, WWII Veterans are able to fly to their memorial by funds donated by individuals, organizations and corporations from across the country.
