Lt. Cmdr. Jordan Baldueza bids farewell to Coast Guard Maritime Safety and Security Team New York crew members during a change of command ceremony in Staten Island, N.Y., July 10, 2015. Baldueza, who took command of MSST New York in July of 2012, was relieved of his duties and responsibilities by Lt. Cmdr. Adam Burkley. The change of command ceremony is a time-honored tradition that formally restates the continuity of command. It is performed before an assembled crew to confirm to each member that although the authority of command is relinquished by one leader and assumed by another, it is still maintained without interruption.
