150309-N-YM718-011 NORTH PACIFIC OCEAN (March 9, 2015) – The submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS 39) transits the Pacific Ocean as it enters the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility. Emory S. Land is a forward-deployed expeditionary submarine tender on an extended deployment conducting coordinated tended moorings and afloat maintenance in the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet areas of responsibility. By returning to its forward-deployed status, the Emory S. Land ensures that surface ships and submarines have vital supply and maintenance support to keep them on station operating forward preserving peace, protecting commerce, and deterring aggression.
