NEWPORT, R.I. (April 8, 2015) – Mr. Tim Doherty, a security specialist onboard Naval Station Newport, simulates attempting to gain access to a locked classroom at the Naval Supply Corps School during an active-shooter drill. Drills such as these help prepare commands to react to incidents involving hostiles aimed at harming personnel. The schoolhouse immediate executed the shelter-in-place plan locking every used classroom door, turning off the light and hiding beneath desks. Naval base security officers apprehended the gunman and immediately began searching the schoolhouse for potential other hostiles while simultaneously evacuating students to safety ensuring each was identified and checked for injuries.
