NEWPORT, R.I. (April 8, 2015) – Naval Station security officers, schoolhouse staff and students react to an active-shooter drill conducted by Naval Station Newport Security at the Naval Supply Corps School. A lone man with a handgun entered the schoolhouse shouting, “Come Out! You cannot hide! I will hurt you!” The schoolhouse immediate executed the shelter-in-place plan locking every used classroom door, turning off the light and hiding beneath desks. Naval base security officers apprehended the gunman and immediately began searching the schoolhouse for potential other hostiles while simultaneously evacuating students to safety ensuring each was identified and checked for injuries.
