William Toronto, 28th Bomb Squadron deputy staff judge advocate and New Horizons Honduras 2015 staff judge advocate out of Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D., hands out donated backpacks to school children at the 23 of April school in Brisas del Mar, Honduras, July 21, 2015. The aid was provided by multiple donors and the event was organized by the New Horizons Honduras 2015 training exercise’s civil affairs team from the U.S. Army’s 81st Civil Affairs Battalion out of Fort Hood, Texas. New Horizons was launched in the 1980s and is an annual joint humanitarian assistance exercise that U.S. Southern Command conducts with a partner nation in Central America, South America or the Caribbean. The exercise improves joint training readiness of U.S. and partner nation civil engineers, medical professionals and support personnel through humanitarian assistance activities.
