John Palermo, a Sacramento, Calif., native, nears the end of the Tradewind Triathlon at Dewey Square aboard Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Aug. 9, 2015. Open to the public, the race was part of the Commanding Officer’s Semper Fit Series and consisted of a 500-meter swim, 11-mile bike ride and a 5-kilometer run. Service members could earn points in the 101 Days of Summer Program by participating in this event. The races of the Commanding Officer’s Fitness Series help support the mission of Marine Corps Community Services Hawaii, which is to contribute to the readiness and retention of Marines, Sailors and families aboard MCB Hawaii by providing fitness and recreation programs, as well as business activities in garrison and deployed environments.
