These Congressional Gold Medals were awarded to the families of Montford Point Marines Methone Cunningham and Thomas Reed during the 50th Anniversary of the Montford Point Marines Association Aug. 12, 2015, at the Renaissance Riverview Plaza Hotel in Mobile, Ala. Congress authorized the medal for all of the Marines who trained at Montford Point, now Camp Johnson, N.C., in recognition of their service and dedication during a time of racial divide.
