On Aug. 1, 2015, four companies of the New Mexico National Guard’s 93rd Brigade, conducted a Joint Training Exercise with the goal of improving the efficiency of aeromedical evacuation from point-of-injury to patient stabilization at a Forward Surgical Team (Role II+) hospital. The companies participating were the 720th Transportation Company with detachments from Las Vegas and Santa Fe, New Mexico Medical Detachment, 1209th Area Support Medical Company, and C Company (Rear), 1st Battalion, 171st Aviation Regiment. The 720th provided the 9-Line aeromedical calls, landing zone set-up, and simulated patients. The MED DET and 1209th provided the Role II+ capability, and C Co. 171st Aviation provided the aeromedical platform. This JTX allowed most Soldiers to interface in an environment that is not insulated, and challenged them to use their knowledge and skills. Feedback from Soldiers showed that it was an exciting and refreshing experience for them, with personal and professional takeaways. (Released, U.S. Army photo by Sgt. Gregory Smith, 200th PAD)
